AREAS OF PRACTICE

Counseling is about change. Yet change can be elusive, daunting, and difficult to maintain. Often we as believers find our old nature at odds with our new nature in Christ (Galatians 5:17). In counseling, the specific hindrances to change are brought to light for examination. This allows individuals to make an informed choice on what and how to effect change.

My vision of therapy is rooted in scripture. Specifically, 2 Samuel 12 tells how the prophet Nathan confronted King David after his grievous sins. David responds with repentance and later authors Psalm 51. If David, a man after God's own heart, can fall into such a state, so can we. In the same way, God has led me through the continual path of repentance, restoring me to Himself. My vision remains to show others how God will not abandon His elect and prevail in completing His work in us.

Adults

For adults, a crisis or specific issue may prompt a desire for counseling. With that desire comes a natural hesitancy to seek help for a variety of reasons. And the wide range of available information through popular media can add confusion. In individual counseling, a counselor's goal is to listen well, discover and respond to the presenting issue and make relevant information consumable to the consumer.

Clergy

Faith-based leaders have unique challenges in finding resources to address personal issues that impact their relationships and families. As a former pastor and licensed minister of the gospel, Francisco is well aware of the specific problems facing clergy, ministers, and church staff.
